Welcome to my Musings!
I like to write. I don’t write much. As a senior analyst for SiriusXM Radio, my days are primarily filled with Excel spreadsheets, calculations, number crunching and forecasting. I love numbers and math and am very analytical, but sometimes I just want to write.
Until recently, my writing was limited to the annual holiday letter and occasional letters to the editor of my local paper, climbing up on my often very tall soapbox to rant about something that I was passionate about. I always thought about writing that great American novel (I am sure many of us do), but I never felt that I had a good plot or much to say.
But during the past three years, I learned that:
- People like my writing! On the few occasions that I didn’t get out my Christmas letter, I was asked what happened and did I die or divorce (more about that later) or did I drop them off my A list? They missed my annual updates and wanted more.
- Writing is cathartic. I never used to journal much or consistently, but when I found my marriage was about to crash and burn and we started couples counseling, I learned that the practice of daily journaling helped me to clarify my thoughts, track those a-ha moments of insights and breakthroughs, keep me focused on gratitude, and was an opportunity to spill out all of the emotions that were wrestling with each other and needed to be put out of my head and onto a piece of paper so I could contemplate, learn and let go.
As my life has returned to normal (a new normal but at least no longer one of rage or despair or grief), I haven’t been journaling as much. Since I have been told on many occasions that I need to write a blog or a book, I thought creating my blog will spur me into action and keep me on track. Plus, exercising my writing muscle and setting a regular discipline can’t hurt.
I hope you enjoy my occasional musings about life. If my blog makes you laugh, cry, roll your eyes, gets you thinking, helps with an issue you are working through, lets you know you are not alone, or just fills up some free time, I am happy you are here. Feel free to share your thoughts as well – you are not alone!
Cheers,
Kathy Gonzalez
